Why are no autombile manufacturers offering a FlexFuel compact/small car that runs on E85?

I surmise that it is a conspiracy between big fat oil companies and . The only vehicles on the market are gas guzzling pick-ups/suvs, and semi gas guzzling mini-vans and sedans. The most efficient out there appears to be the Chevrolet Impala. Given the roughly 33% reduction in mpgs, it makes it hard to justify paying for fuel that is only about 8% cheaper in my area. However, if you had a vehicle that was quite a bit more fuel efficient, like say a Honda Fit or Ford Focus, it wouldn’t sting as much to try and contribute to the common good and run a largely renewable fuel and less polluting. Believe me, I want to help the environment and strengthen national security, but I also have to save money for a child’s college education and for retirement so that I only have to work when I’m 70. The technology is there when they are using it on other engines in their stable and the consumer need is there, so I’m not buying that is a consumer .

I have a 97 Intrepid and I run on E85, it smokes, fouls pulgs a lot, and the mileage is no different than when I ran on gas.

I slowed my use of the car since the rise of the E85, it is not worth the effort to save measly pennies. I also have 3 kids to plan college for and I try to do what I can but this Texas Oil Tycoons son has a war in Iraq right now, he wants his daddy to have all the oil in the world, and he is going to kill to get it.

I remember back when we were over there to look for some guy with a bear (bin laden) now it seems the search is over, and the war is more about oil and gas.

The thing is E85 is not available everywhere. The market is very limited and requires certain modifications to the car. The big 3 have made flex fuel cars for a long time. The biggest problem with E85 is that it evaporates at a much faster rate then gasoline and burns hotter. We have many flex fuel Ford taurus’s running around the US running on CNG. Right now the trend is gas/electric hybrids and as electric moves forward all electric even solar power and air power are possible. There are a few small cars running around in prototype stage than run on compressed air. They used bursts of compressed air to make the pistons go down things have been changing fast in the last 15 or so years. We have been useing gasoline for the last 100 or so years so it will take a few years to swicth peoples mind set as well. Fuel from corn not too popular in Texas. Unless we find a way to grow more corn faster we will wind up paying for it at the grocery store instead of the pump. The cost to feed Chickens with corn meal has sky rocketed.
