It doesn’t matter. if you buy gas in a county where oxygenated fuel is required, and MTBE is outlawed, all stations will have E-10. Apparently, from what you’re telling me, some stations are selling E-10 even in counties where it’s not required. Must be too much trouble for the distributors or something. If it’s any consolation, I been running E-10 in my vehicles for years with no adverse consequences.
good idea though, not mixing e-10 & non-ethanol gas in your tank.
might take awhile, but sounds like you’ll be doing some state by state, county by county research before your trip. It’s going to be mostly in counties with large population centers, where the air quality is a concern. guess you’ll have to plan your fill-ups outside of big cities.

Here in NYC, ALL gas companies have to use ethanol by law.
So it depends on what city you drive through.
