    the glycerin by products can be refined and sold as useful products. The issue is the Sodium salts created are not very nice. See MSDS sheet

    The quantities of glycerol that are anticipated to be produced as a by-product of making biodiesel fuel from fats will far exceed any current market demand for the glycerol. The glycerol will also be contaminated with other chemicals from the process used to separate it from the fuel components, and will be diluted with water. The glycerol waste stream will contaminate drinking water if just dumped in the ground, and will put stress on our sewage treatment plants if disposed of as waste water.

    if you just dump it, you are wasting a valuable resource. use it instead to make soap.
