no. if we are going to continue to power our vehicles with fossil fuels, the move to biodiesel is the next step

I belive ethanol cost $2.50 per gal. to produce with out state and federal taxes.Ethanol also has 50% less energy than gasolene. That means that you could only drive half as far per tank.Even through gas prices are high fosil fuels are still at least 50% cheaper than any other fuel.

Cars made in Brazil are now able to use both ethanol and gasoline at the same time, doesn't matter the percentage of each fuel. Of course the electronic injection system (developed by magneti marelli) is specific for that, and lots of the engine components are reinforced, as ethanol is more corrosive than gasoline. However, gasoline is by law added with 20% of ethanol (ethanol is here produced from sugar-cane), and ethanol is E85. I can tell you that pollution from automobiles diminishes a lot. But there is also pollution from buses and trucks, that are mostly moved by diesel here in Brazil. So, the government will demand biodiesel (mostly castor oil, palm oil, and soya bean oil) to be added to diesel, initially in 2% (in 2008), and then in 5% (2013 on).

It's definitely a step in the right direction, but it still uses gasoline. I'd like to see hydrogen fuel cell powered cars sometime soon. That's the main goal.

No, it's called Oxyfuel, and it does horrid things to the insides of your cars engine, etc. I've had to use it, and it's AWFUL.
