Of course the electronic injection system (developed by magneti marelli) is specific for that, and lots of the engine components are reinforced, as ethanol is more corrosive than gasoline. However, gasoline is by law added with 20% of ethanol (ethanol is here produced from sugar-cane), and ethanol is E85. I can tell you that pollution from automobiles diminishes a lot. But there is also pollution from buses and trucks, that are mostly moved by diesel here in Brazil. So, the government will demand biodiesel (mostly castor oil, palm oil, and soya bean oil) to be added to diesel, initially in 2% (in 2008), and then in 5% (2013 on).
