I want to get my 1995 Pontic Trans Am to run on E85 and maybe an e99 mixture. What kind of fuel pump will work?

Gio asked:

I heard that just for e 85 I dont need to replace the Fuel Pump but since I want to upgrade to a high volume fuel pump I thought I would resurch the best one to work for both Petrol and Ethanol

Thanks for answering
Please don’t listen to that guy! please help me find a good answer.

I guess I want to know what type of fuel pump I am looking to buy to run this set up. Would it have stainless steal internals instead of plastic?

I also know how it works. A piggy back system is used over the factory like a flex fuel gold is or a stand alone. It adds more fuel pulses for a 150% to 200% pulse increase to get a fuel mixture of 11:1 to 9:1 For e 85 to work more efficient. It also is not that great in the cold weather.

You can utilize the factory fuel pump for ethanol with no adverse effects. If you wanted to run methanol, you would want to buy a methanol capable pump. People confuse these two fuel quite often. http://www.change2E85.com and http://www.driveflexfuel.com sells kits for conversion and will allow you to run gasoline, E100, or any combination of the two.

Don’t do it as the cost is too much for a 14 y/o car. Invest in a more fuel efficient car. What are you driving a V/8? Why? The days of the American Sports Car are behind us. Buy a Honda, Accura, BMW, Lexus. Sometimes we men must leave being a boy behind and a 1995 Trans Am is a “boys” car.

I don’t think it is that simple. You would need more than just a fuel pump. I would first look at the mechanics of the newer vehicles with flex fuel and check out the differences. Could also be electronic and engine design as well. The only convertible from past would be a diesel to run off vegetable oils and such. Other than that, I would not attempt any conversions.
Poster makes a good point about the price. Plus it may not qualify for emissions when it is done.If you need emissions testing where you drive.
I think you would have to do lines, fittings, maybe even rings, and injectors.
Plus have you even seen any fuel pumps around, very limited .
    availablity.
How much do you expect to even save.
