How does E85 ethanol actually work in the engine? Since it is a lower octane do the pistons need to be shorter

Since E85 ethanol has a lower octane..which means it has a lower combustion temperature…does that mean the pistons have to be smaller to reach the optimum height required to propel the vehicle?

E85 is higher in octane than regular gas. If your car is a flex fuel car then nothing needs to be done. The only difference is that E85 does not have as many BTU’s as straight gas
