Get Out of The Box – An Update on Blacklight Power

By | Aug 4, 2009

Dr. Randell Mills and his Blacklight Power have signed another customer for another 400 megawatts.  This announcement adds to the licenses of 8000 megawatts spread over five utilities and an independent power producer.  Two of the utilities are public companies and as a group the companies deliver a capacity of over 7,600 megawatts to about 985,000 customers.

The new customer is Akridge Energy a creature of John E. Akridge III who has also become a Blacklight stockholder.  Akridge currently serves consumers in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. areas.  Mr. Akridge plans to use Blacklight units in distributed scale power units at the company’s commercial real estate properties to its tenants and eventually back to the local grid.  It’s a plan that soaks up the electric utility revenue and moves it over to the landlord.  That sort of plan might make some utilities a little nervous.  It also would put pressure on plans for a smart grid.

The outstanding question, even after all the deals is, “does it work?” Assuming so, and there isn’t any reality testing to say Backlight doesn’t, puts to test a lot of physics opinion to revisit their assumptions.  But, the science community has been there before.

It was 1905 when Einstein had his miracle year coming up with six ideas that drove physics for a century.  Count 1905 as the year the special theory of relativity, the quantum theory of light, the special theory of relativity, the infamous E=MC2, the new method to count and determine the atoms or molecules in a space and the explanation of Brownian motion upset the contemporary cart.  Imagine coming up with, sorting out and writing the papers to explain all that in 12 short months.

Getting published was a miracle in itself by facing down the existing physics concepts.  It took until 1919 for the public press to notice that Einstein’s work had solidified with other work to become a revolution in science.  Two more years went by until the Nobel committee awarded its prize.  It took a very long time for the interested science community to get out of their old box and examine the “new box” that Einstein developed.

Einstein got there by thinking outside of the old box.  He provided a foundation for a 100-year rush of physics development.  He also knocked a bunch of Sir Isaac Newton’s work into the weeds.  These sorts of things bring resistance, human nature’s desire for security.  But today the world needs another security, providing energy and fuels, much more than a small community of physicists needs to hang on to the past.

The Blacklight power system can be explained as splitting water to make hydrogen2, which then splits to molecular hydrogen or simple atomic hydrogen. From that Blacklight gets plasma, light and those irritating or amazing (depending on your point of view) hydrinos.

The energy released comes in the form of heat, a lot of it, and nothing in the current lexicon of chemistry or physics explains all that energy.  Therein lies the sand in the gears.  This isn’t supposed to work.  It is even cheap, less than a quarter the cost of a low cost coal plant.

It seems to work, customers are signing up, and one could assume that one day a unit will go on line.  That will trigger a storm of controversy.  There are careers at stake, billions in grants and budgets and turf to protect.

The conundrum comes from Dr. Mills explaining these “hydrinos” violate the basic laws of quantum physics – the rules of how atoms behave – and therefore can’t possibly exist.  Add to that a number of prominent scientists, including Nobel laureates; have criticized Dr. Mills’ theory.  Robert Park, a University of Maryland professor and spokesman for the American Physical Society which represents more than 40,000 physicists and their collective opinion has been crass been enough to cast doubt on Dr. Mills’ claims with true turf defending comments about the hydrinos and Dr. Mills with, “The physics that he uses is utter nonsense.”  It isn’t very diplomatic talk, but if the running units being installed prove Mill’s ideas, well . . .

All that quantum turf will need some new thinking, new grant money and career adjustments.  I would be a little careful condemning if I were a practicing physicist; after all, it won’t be the shrill voice of condemnation that will attract the new funding to figure Mill’s work out and come up with new theories and uses.

Blacklight seems to be moving along.  The uses of the hydrinos, which seem to be a “waste material” from the energy released, are a research topic at Blacklight.  Somewhere outside of easy view an engineering effort must be underway to build the licensed units.  Just how all this plays out will be fascinating.

In the meantime, the box breaker of all time, Albert Einstein, might be smiling.  Einstein’s life and career might stand as an endorsement for Dr. Mill’s work.  One thing is certain; the late Dr. Einstein would surely understand the road that Dr. Mills is traveling.

BlackLight Power is to be congratulated. The late Dr. Robert Carroll suggested Inverse Quantum States would one day be important back in 1976.

Chava Energy, our firm, is also developing energy systems based on fractional hydrogen. Hydrogen is the simplest atom: one electron revolving around one proton. Imagine an atom of Hydrogen enlarged so much that the proton is as big as a golf ball and you’d find the circling electron three hundred yards away!

Hydrogen’s electron orbit can be made to collapse, becoming a much smaller sphere. A tremendous amount of energy is thus released. The new atoms, which BlackLight labels hydrinos, do not need to burn with an oxidizer to liberate energy. Mills claims to have “made independently validated energy cells that produce 1,000 times the energy of burning Hydrogen.”

A huge amount of Hydrogen is stored in water. The oceans contain 8 million trillion barrels of water. Think about the implications: Even without deuterium or nuclear options, one barrel of water can yield as much energy as hundreds of barrels of oil – just by making clever use of fractional Hydrogen.

This can safely be accomplished without releasing radiation or pollution. The cost will be far lower than solar, wind or nuclear energy. Fractional Hydrogen (f/H) systems can help accelerate independence from fossil fuels.

Chava’s engineers have now discovered a much better approach to both theoretical and practical paths that lead towards remarkable energy conversion systems that utilize f/H.

For example, fractional Hydrogen is expected to make possible Self Powered Internal Combustion Engines (SPICE™). A SPICE in a hybrid car will require no fuel. When parked, the vehicle will be able to wirelessly sell power to the grid, or supply electricity to a suitably equipped home or small business.

Imagine the positive impact on the economy and the environment of future cars, trucks, and buses, that need no fuel or recharge, and can pay for themselves over time. This is a near-term alternative and far less expensive than building new coal burning or nuclear power plants.
