    Ethene is a petroleum based product derived from catalytic and thermal cracking, or as a product of fractional distillation, so it is non renewable.

    Ethanol from glucose is renewable because:

    Glucose ferments to give ethanol
    Ethanol combusts to give carbon dioxide and water
    Plants photosynthesise carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
    the cycle continues.
