Experience with hybrid cars or E85 ethanol fuel?

~*Absolutley Ordinary*~ asked:

With the gas prices gettin of control, everyone is talking about hybrid cars. I need to get a new car soon anyway, so I’m looking for input from anyone that already has a hybrid, are you happy with it? What are the pros/ cons? What kind of do you get? Is the cost of maintance more than regular cars? Anything would be helpful….

Also, I’ve seen cars lately at the pump at the gas station. What’s the deal with this? I don’t know anything about it. Can you only put it in certain cars? Are there pros/cons? I’m just wondering cause it’s always cheaper, so why doesn’t everyone use it?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

E85 is 85% ethanol, 15% gas. It can only be used in approved cars that have been built specially for this type of fuel. Usually, it is labeled as “flex-fuel”.
All cars can run on E10, which is 10% ethanol. However, you get less mpg with E10, than regular gas so the only real improvement is E10 is higher octane.

E85 is mostly alcohol. Alcohol is corrosive (make metal rust). If your car is not FLE-FUEL, then the alcohol will completely corrode away the tank and gas line.

Also Alcohol has only 2/3 (about 65%) of the energy content. So if could normally get about 30 miles to one gallon, then you would only get about 20 miles to the gallon (more expensive per dollar).

Currently the hybrids are hard to get so they are expensive. You do NOT save any money -because of the high cost of the car. Most people do it save the earth – not their money.

    Good Luck…
