Flex Fuel Cars
One reason that E85 doesn’t work in non-flex fuel cars is that the fuel system isn’t designed for it. The ethanol can eat some of the parts (rubber based hoses, etc.) Biggest difference between an E85 car and an alcohol burning dragster is that the E85 car is built for the street, it doesn’t have to be torn down and rebuilt every 20 hours, and it doesn’t run 2500+ horsepower and cost $100,000 to build.
An alcohol burning drag racer gets completely rebuilt after each 1/4 mile run. The pistons are almost always burned. They say not to burn
e85 in the vehicles for the same reason. With the higher compression ratio’s in the street vehicles, the engine will run way too hot and have its life shortened unnecessarily, unless it is built to run the alternative fuels.
Also, the rubber in the fuel system is not designed for the different fuels.
You asked this question before and for some reason you seem to want to use E85 gas.
The bottom line is that cars NOT prepared for alcohol fuel will probably not survive long term use (corrosion of metal and rubber parts).
Drag racers built to use alcohol are built to take the extra corrosive nature of alcohol.
Good Luck.
