Every now and then, car companies apparently feel the need to release some sort of statement on their overall greener motoring efforts. Daimler did their part with a 3,400-word press release describing how the company’s “Road to the Future” is creating cleaner cars now and in the coming years. The short version (you can read the long version after the jump) is as follows:

  • Mercedes-Benz will offer 58 BlueEFFICIENCY models for sale by the end of 2009 (there are 49 vehicles in the image above, in case you were wondering).
  • Daimler is using a three-pronged approach to increasing efficiency: better internal combustion engines, more efficient hybrids, and bringing electric and fuel cell vehicles to market.
  • More information, including updates on “the development of electric mobility,” will be coming at the Frankfort Motor Show this fall. Mercedes unveiled its “Road to the Future” concept at the 2007 show.

Much, much more after the jump.
