Can any car really use E85 gasoline?

Ok I’m tired of getting conflicting answers. Does a car or truck HAVE to be a flex-fuel vehicle to burn E85 gasoline? Some say that any car can burn E85 without any modification, other say that fuel lines and sensors among other things can/will be ruined if E85 is used in anything other than a flex-fuel vehicle. What is the truth?

Must be a flex fuel. If not you can damage your heads.

There are some vehicles, from 1999 and newer, that can run E85. if you go to there is a tab that say “can I use e85″ and it will tell you what vehicles can and what cant.

both are true, any can run it… some will be damaged by it. E85 is metered differently than gasoline because it has a lower btu rating. also alcohol tends to damage rubber.

Any gasoline vehicle can burn E85. If it is not a flex fuel vehicle, the fuel tank, fuel lines, and injectors will all corrode at an accelerated rate. Also the engine life will be shortened because the injectors cannot compensate for the energy difference causing it to burn lean at times. Flex fuel vehicles detect and compensate for the ethanol concentration.

I personally burn half E85 half pure gasoline in a non flex fuel vehicle to slow down the corrosion rate.

It has to be a flexfuel vehicle to burn E85 otherwise you will damge fuel system components ie:lines, fittings, fuel pump, injectors and possible more expensive engine damage.
